Airy Step into Modernity

A sense of beauty, intelligent construction and high functionality. The combination of these features characterizes many of Marcel Breuer's designs, but especially the foldable D4 tubular steel club chair with belt covering from 1926/27. In the first Breuer tubular steel catalog, the D4 was advertised as "particularly suitable for ships and sports fields as well as for terraces, summer houses, gardens and garden cafés." The D4, which is light and sculptural with its cross-shaped lines, is easy to fold up, store and transport. In 1980, it was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It is a real piece of Bauhaus history.
