Iconic and yet so light, as if Marcel Breuer had conjured it up in an instant. The B40 chair, however, was born from a completely new idea: Breuer developed it by turning his Bauhaus stool 90 degrees. The resulting B40 became the epitome of Bauhaus modernism, which revolted against heavy furniture and unwieldy masses. In the "Standard Furniture" catalog, it reads like this: "The fabric-covered tubular steel furniture has the comfort of good upholstered furniture, without its weight, price, unwieldiness and unhygienic nature." The B40 also lives from details that make its cubic shape appear so elegant. Here, the geometry follows the body. The backrest at the level of the lumbar spine is slightly bent backwards. It runs in an arc, which makes the B40 easy to transport. The double bracing at the front stiffens the chair structurally and at the same time sets a rhythm in the room, as if Breuer had given form to music – and not just created a chair with extremely high utility value.

B40: True to the original and with a license.
How do you recognize the original Bauhaus re-editions from Tecta? The Bauhaus Archive in Berlin only approves re-editions of the original Bauhaus models that are true to the original and produced under license. These are awarded the Oskar Schlemmer signet, which he designed for the State Bauhaus in Weimar in 1922. Even today, our Bauhaus models are based exactly on the proportions of the originals
